now you know, if my laptop wasn’t so awesome, i’d seriously consider getting a 13″ macbook air. just a shame its a mac you know.. i don’t really feel like joining the cult of apple.

uncylcopedia – cult of apple

speaking of my laptop and because i have the urge to bore you to death, i threw an ssd in that as well, it really flies now, after spending all that money on my desktop water cooling it and throwing in the new 6 core cpu, i’ve only turned it on twice in the last 6 weeks cos my laptop is now leet sauce. but the bit i don’t understand is, i put google chrome on the laptop as it maximises screen real estate a little over firefox, and i love it i really do, so i installed it on my desktop as well and i can not stand it. i mean really, whats with that? its no different.. same software, just different computer..

does anything make sense anymore?

while i’m here, check this out, the only good zwan song ever.. seriously wait til the second part (the mary star of the sea bit)

zwan – jesus i / mary star of the sea

[ruht],noun, verb, rut·ted, rut·ting.

  1. a low spot, a ditch or a pit.
  2. a low point in one’s life. it can be boring, sad, or frustrating.

another day, another rut in the road of life.

some friends have kindly pointed out to me that i’m stuck in a bit of a rut lately. to be honest, i was quite offended at first, but a little bit of thought on my part and i’d say that they’re on the money. so, to in some way get out of my little groove of shit,  i’ve been thinking of things i want to do more of, maybe these could be counted as those stupid new years resolutions? i feel kinda lame putting my list down, but at least it’s somewhere i won’t lose, cause like, how could i possibly lose the interwebs? so here is my list:

  • make an effort to do more stencil grafitti
  • make takkun a cat run so he can sit outside when i’m at work
  • go to the local pub(s) more
  • play guitar again at least half decently
  • paint my kitchen & lounge room
  • go for aimless drives again, its been a long time
  • lots more bbq’s with mates

aside from that, last night, just as i was dozing off to sleep, i can’t even remember what i was thinking about, but i often find it hard to get to sleep as i have a million and one thoughts flying though my head at just as many miles an hour. i’m not even sure what one of these many thoughts were, but for some reason my brain latched onto one in particular and decided that, although i have no recollection of the people, the place, the situation i was thinking of ever occurring, that it was real, it had to be real, but why couldn’t i remember ever actually being there?

i came to the conclusion, as i further drifted off into my seemingly dreamless slumber, that the reason that i can not remember is because what i think is my life isn’t actually real and that the only time i’m really awake is those brief few seconds before i sleep.

stuck in a rut? probably.. stuck in the matrix? most definitely.

on a parting note, it would make me very sad if this song wasn’t real, being in the matrix and all.

the smashing pumpkins – glass and the ghost children

the whole twilight thing has made vampires all pretty popular right now, but lets face it, the vampire lestat is the only one you really want to be, not some sparkly git. new orleans is clearly the place to be, i’m a bit disappointed i didn’t get to make it there when i was in the usa.. maybe if i get there for my birthday.. hrmm..

i’ve just been watching planet 51, i’m not even sure why but i found the most stupid things absolutely hillarious.

i have had a lot of time to think lately, and a lot of time to do all the things i should have been doing the last few weeks, like cleaning. which made me think, i never used to be this messy.. sure the mess hasn’t piled up like when miss ashley was here, but i mean, some of the shit i’ve left laying around i wouldn’t have tolerated previously. they say people never change and this is true to the extent that the person at your core does not change,  but the bits people notice first, the extraneous stuff, are the bits that can change without you realising. i have come to think i have picked up some bad habits.

the fact that since ash left a few months back i pretty much haven’t cleaned a thing has also made me feel a little guilty, so i’ve been cleaning the last few days. a few loads of washing, cleaned the kitchen benches, thrown out the multitudes of sauces and spices sitting on the bench that are probably long past their used by date, floors swept, about to mop, bathroom is relatively clean.. trying to force myself back into that old groove of untidy yet clean.

i’ve also decided a while ago that i would like to make the interior of my house some kind of mix between modern and retro, i never really had an idea of what i wanted my house to become, but i think i have to get off my arse and make a move in this regard as well. after all, i have owned my house for around 5 years now and i have only painted the bedrooms before moving in. the lounge/kitchen is in desperate need of a tidy up and the outside needs a coat of paint.

so maybe this is all my new years resolution? i’ve never had one before, always thought it was a shit idea for people with no real drive in their life, no conviction for what they wanted to achieve. it’s just coincidence that i am having these thoughts the last few days or maybe weeks. how i’m going to make this retro modern mix work though i have no idea.

grandad popped in before to check how my friend bec was going, she’s in bundaberg amongst all the floods. grandad seems to think that the coming year is a year for change, a year for good luck, our family (i.e. mum, dad and us 3 boys) has always been surrounded by the number 11. now, i don’t believe in this numerology stuff for a second, but with the sadness and misfortune we’ve had over the last few years, i have wondered in the past if 11 was actually quite the opposite of good luck for us.

time will tell, but i do have a good feeling, and it all starts tonight. lets hope everything falls into place.

how awesome were the 90s?
how awesome were the 90s? avatar

so i was thinking before, how awesome was alternative rock in the 90s? i mean seriously, i was seeing this girl when i was 16 and she listened to pop i suppose you’d call it – just whatever was played on b105, the local top40 commercial station. a friend of mine pointed me in the direction of triple j, and really, it’s what i should have been listening to all along.

when i was in america, driving from las vegas to the grand canyon in the corvette i hired, it had satellite radio. here we are in good old australia only just now getting digital radio, and i was listening to satellite. i was able to drive the whole way (about 300 miles each way) and listen to the same radio station without any interruptions. the station, lithium, played nothing but 90s alternative rock with no ads! by far the best time i had in america, cruising across the desert beating out all the tunes that pointed me in the direction i’ve taken.

so here’s some of my favourite alt rock tunes from the years that were the 90s.

radiohead – creep

smashing pumpkins – cherub rock

the severed heads – deads eyes opened

soundgarden – black hole sun

nine inch nails – closer

tripping daisy – i got a girl

of course, there are plenty of other totally awesome tunes from the 90s, but if i posted them all i’d be here all night!
